How is Christmas Celebrated in Bolivia?
Comment #1 Boliviana (207.64.141.9) - 08/12/07 18:25
Chrstmas is a very Roman Catholic festivity, we have a manger with Baby Jesus, some families we have the Qusqueño Baby that are from colonial time.We go to midnignt Mass and then we have dinner that is called Picana , it is a soup with chicken, beef, corn speices and also wine , all the family is together and presents are open at midnight.
Children receive gifts from Baby Jesus to whom they writte a letter.
On January 6 we take Baby Jesus to Mass.
It is not so commercial, we express the reason for Christmas, the birth of the Savior, the Manger has animals the 3 Magyis, Vigen Mary and Joseph.
Children come to sing and play handmade musicals instruments for Bay Jesus. We have special candies: Turrones and chocolates, Cristmas Day we have chocolate and Buñuelos[puff pastry]

I am hearing a lot of bad news about Bolivia, I think it is because of the current government regime of Morales not yielding to the wishes of America. Well, that is good, because the US Government has always been meddling and sticking their noses to issues they are not really a part of, but setting that one aside there have been many paramilitary forces there. I wish you luck there. People and expats living in Bolivia should better be careful and be vigilant.

Is there a traditional Bolivian food or dish that is a requirement or must have in Christmas dinner to the celebration of Christmas there. Like serving roasted Turkey on Thanksgiving day in America?
Comment #12 Just Answering (dustin) (63.176.159.113) - 10/27/08 11:57
In Bolivia the Christmas Traditional Dinner is roasted pig.. I have read that the family gathers at midnight on the 24th for the roasted pig feast. Getting a pig at the last minute for Christmas in Bolivia is like getting a Turkey the day before Thanksgiving in America.

I think that it is so wonderful that Christmas is celebrated on the same day throughout the whole world but in so many different ways. I think it so amazing that the whole world celebrates the birth of of Lord, Jesus Christ.
Comment #23 Spike (63.176.159.56) - 02/03/09 01:46
People like Lee soo yeon should never be able to speak, the things that come out of his mouth are probably almost always a disgrace to mankind all over the world.
Comment #24 Julie (63.176.159.233) - 02/18/09 01:25
So, your Christmas is kind of like how we celebrate it here in America. Except we teach our children that they get presents from "Santa Claus" (which I hope you know who that is, if not look it up cause its a LONG story and would sound crazy if its the first time your hearing of this). Our children also write letters to Santa asking for gifts they would like. We too (my family) go to midnight mass on Christmas Eve, and have a dinner on either christmas eve or christmas day. It is very interesting to know that Christmas is a holiday celebrated all over the world, because it should be, its the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. It would be interesting to find out how many different ways its celebrated. Also, is it celebrated on the same day all over the world? (December 25th)
