Ted (208.155.241.224) -

I'm looking for some good wifi hotspots in La Paz where I can setup and work all day. Any ideas?

i heard that the coyote bar was a great hotspot in La Paz

Do you have any additional info on the Coyote Bar? Like a website?

Some good wifi spots are your local mcdonalds, like most of them have wifi available, and also most hotels do, so you could sit in there lobby and work.

Many cafes have wifi these days - Cafe Alexander, Cafe Berlin and La Terraza chains, Mongo's, Blueberries, Sol y Luna etc.

I would have to agree with the people who tell you to go to your local mcdonalds or cafes and also some hotels. Most places now will tell you if they have wifi, like some restaurants do or even your local library does. I know the library also would not care if you sat in there all day working, as where the cafes and mcdonalds might care.

Is there any military grade commercialized product or service that could give you connection anywhere in the world? So you don't have to look for these hot spots and you just need your notebook and that device to get connected? Is there any such thing? Is that even possible?

Ask the local people around town.

With my experience, look for places where you can hang out like a bar, a resto or a cafe where the food are much higher than normal. In those places, they offer a better wifi connection cause they can afford for it. Just be sure that you could afford the prices there too.

It kinda depends on what kind of person you are and what you like to do, if you wanna go out and party than go to a night club or a bar. If you want to go and just chill than find something like a cafe. It all just depends, check out places to go on the web.

Dustin your a lot of help with finding some of these wifi spots, thanks a lot buddy.

My post is a reply to Tristans post. I do not know if there is such thing as a "military connection" but I do know you can get whats called a wireless network card, that slides into your laptop, (most laptops have them, and I even think some older ones do, about 6 years old or less.) You just buy the wireless network card for about $60.00 and you put it in the slot available on the laptop and then its kind of like your own wifi connection. As long as a cell phone has service where your at, than the connection will work. So your pretty much never without an internet connection.

Novotel wireless internet WiFi hotspots - ACCOR HOTEL NOVOTEL PUENTE LA PAZ and in Starbucks La Paz & Aliso Creek - Laguna Nigue

Hey Trevor, you don't need to lecture us with that wireless network card cause everybody knows the existence of such technology and not only geeks. and it isn't true that you only need a cellphone signal to have a connection unless you're a true blue hacker. The wifi you are talking about also have service providers of their own.

Anyways, Hostel and Cafe Colibri has one good wifi connection. It located at Calle Manabm and Bolmvar

Here is a link of coyote bar.

Comment #15 Bolivia Expat from Santa Cruz (Contact Member) -

Why do you link to a bar in California (USA) in a forum about the country, Bolivia?

I just want to, is there a problem with that Bolivia Expat from Santa Cruz? I think I read it right when this site states that anyone can post anything.

But aside from Coyote bar there are still lots of bar in Bolivia:

Coyote Bar on Ave. 20 de Octubre #228, is small but it is popular and has a great atmoshphere.

Sol Y Luna on Calle Murillo #999, is a popular traveler's hangout, serving beers by the pint and a wide variety of cocktails. They also serve food and menus are in English & Spanish. Bar has a great atmosphere and prices are in the mid-range.

Ram Jam on Presbitero Medina #2124, is a very popular place and is open very late. The place also has an oxygen bar upstairs. Where you can breath in some pure oxygen at the high altitude.

Mongo's Rock Bottom on Hermanos Manchego #2444, is a very popular bar among travelers and locals. They also serve food and play music for dancing.

I bet pretty most of the wi-fi spots around will be good so it all depends on what you are looking for. If speed isone of those, then I would urge you to visit a local library of some sort.

Bar joints, restaurants and even airport bays will have what you are looking for. Good luck

Just follow the crowd of expats carrying their laptops. Easy to identify. They are always nice coffee shops or bars. Good luck!

Following expats carrying laptops is stupid. You will just get their attention and might mistaken you for a thief.. Geez I do not want that to happen to me.

I suggest that when your in there just try looking around the place and you will find a better place to start surfing with wifi access. I bet library's and bars in there have signage that they do have wifi access..

Unless you are a thief, why should you worry about being mistaken for one? Most of the people I know will be industrious enough to give you a lead on what is the best service. This could be tricky though if you have to keep snooping to identify who and who has no laptop(s)..

Yet again, would it not be easy visiting all of them and making a personal choice?

That is why I chose the word "mistaken" buddy boy, you are eventually not a thief but hey might mistakenly think so, why? how would you felt when being followed while you hang on to your belognings like laptops? If I were to be sneak with someone, I'll certainly freak out.

I do not know how you'd feel and think but I suggest that you be careful, those people who might give you a lead could actually lead you to harm, well that is based on my own experience buddy boy..who knows till your actually in the situation already.

Pearly, you can post just anything but of relevance to the topics in question.

I concur with you Olivia..a hundred and one percent. I did not know that you were speaking from experience.

Indeed, trusting everyone around us is not at all advisable especially in this day and age where crime has become our next door neighbors. Nonetheless, as the famous adage goes, 'to every rule, there is an exception.'

What Justin suggested is a tactic you could employ in desperate situations but beware

Yeah of course, Justin might have a good point there but be very super ultimately careful... And to Pearly, I think she just made a mistake upon posting a wrong link there. Well I understand you girl, sometimes i just do it mistakenly, hope cwemoy would feel the same way towards you.

And to Olivia, would you mind sharing us that experience that you are telling us here in the forum so would know when to freak out? Smile!!
